The Geographical Imaginations Radio Archive

From 2014 to 2020, Geographical Imaginations: Radio Expeditions into the Geographies of Everything & Nothing explored the world through long-form radio essays, conversations, field recordings, music, and storytelling.

Across 60 episodes and five seasons, the program approached geography not simply as the study of places, but as a way of investigating the relationships that shape everyday life. Episodes explored migration, identity, borders, memory, landscape, tourism, inequality, culture, education, and belonging, often bringing distant places and experiences into conversation with one another.

Broadcast from Radio Fabrik in Salzburg, Austria, the program also went into the field, with radio expeditions extending beyond Central Europe to Tanzania, Cuba, the United States, and the Arctic.

The radio project represents an earlier chapter of what has become The Geographical Imaginations Expedition & Institute. Many of the questions that animate The GIEI today—about place, perspective, storytelling, encounter, and the ways we imagine the world—can be heard taking shape across these episodes.
