SUPPORT THE GIEI
The Geographical Imaginations Expedition & Institute (The GIEI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in Connecticut, USA.
The GIEI is building an intellectual and educational home for global citizenship education grounded in human geography, geographical imagination, inquiry, storytelling, dialogue, and lived experience.
Your support helps us make that work possible.
What Your Support Makes Possible
Contributions to The GIEI help us develop learning experiences, expand access for participants, support research and writing, create educational resources, experiment with new forms of geographical inquiry, and bring people from different places and experiences into conversation with one another.
As The GIEI 2.0 takes shape, support can help make possible work such as The World as a Village of 100 People, new courses and geographical expeditions, research and public educational resources, and Worlds, our developing literary initiative exploring global citizenship through lived experience.
Some of this work will happen in classrooms. Some will happen online. Some will happen through writing, research, dialogue, or encounters with particular places. What connects it is a commitment to helping people understand the relationships that shape our world—and imagine how those relationships might be different.
Expand Access to The World as a Village of 100 People
One immediate way to support The GIEI is by helping make The World as a Village of 100 People accessible to participants who bring perspective, curiosity, and lived experience to the learning community but cannot afford the full cost of participation.
The online short course brings together a small global cohort to explore inequality, identity, interdependence, and collective decision-making. Because participants may come from very different economic circumstances, even relatively modest fees in U.S. dollars can create significant barriers to participation.
Scholarship contributions directly help reduce those barriers.
What Your Gift Can Make Possible
- $20 helps reduce the fee for a participant with limited financial access.
- $40 contributes toward a partial scholarship.
- $100 nearly covers a participant’s full reduced-rate place.
- $150 supports the full cost of one participant.
The course uses a sliding-scale model informed by regional wage differences and individual circumstances, allowing GIEI to build a learning community that is geographically and economically more accessible.
Support the Expedition
A contribution to The GIEI is ultimately an investment in questions: questions about place and belonging, inequality and interdependence, stories and systems, citizenship and responsibility, and the worlds we might create together.
Your support gives us greater freedom to ask those questions in new ways—and to invite more people into the conversation.
